Hispanic Federation Board of Directors Elects Banco Popular Inc. Exec. Vice President Manuel Chinea As New Board Chairman

NEW YORK, NY – July 9th, 2020 —Hispanic Federation announces the election of Manuel Chinea of Popular Bank as chairman of the organization’s board of directors.

Chinea is Chief Operating Officer of Popular Bank, a division of Popular, Inc., a leading financial institution with over $52 billion in assets and operations in Puerto Rico, the mainland U.S. and the Virgin Islands. Popular Bank has operations in New York, New Jersey and South Florida. The bank opened its first branch in the mainland U.S. in 1961 and currently has $10 billion in assets.

Chinea was elected chairman at the board’s quarterly meeting last month. Prior to his appointment, he chaired the board’s Development Committee and has been an active member of the Executive Committee. He has been instrumental in helping the federation strengthen the 30-year partnership with Popular Bank and other institutions.

In recent years, Hispanic Federation has grown in influence and reach across the U.S. and Puerto Rico, with satellite offices in Washington, DC, Connecticut, Florida, North Carolina and Puerto Rico, and others under consideration.

For more than two decades, Chinea has been an active member and officer of several marketing, credit, treasury management and not-for-profit organizations. In addition to his position and work with the Hispanic Federation Board, Chinea is a board member of Junior Achievement of New York.

Outgoing Chair Nathalie Rayes will continue serving as member of the executive committee of the Federation’s Board of Directors.
