Latina Philanthropy Council Launch
Hispanic Federation has always been dedicated to giving back, and we are always looking for ways to do more for our community. Recently, we made one of our visions of philanthropy a reality when we launched the Latina Philanthropy Council (LPC) to mobilize, inspire, leverage, and engage Latinas as philanthropic leaders. “Latina Voices in Philanthropy: A Conversation with Latina Leaders” was hosted by WNYC-NY Public Radio Jerome L. Greene Performance Space and sponsored by Enterprise Holdings.
The event attracted more than 75 of New York’s most prominent Latina business leaders, community advocates, and influencers. Guest speakers included WNYC’s President, Laura Walker, Lucia Ballas-Traynor, LPC Chair and HF Board Vice-Chair, accompanied by an interactive panel discussion moderated by Kimberly Fernandez, from Aon. Among the panelists were Dora Abreu, Credit Suisse; Beth Marmolejos, Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield; and Delphine Mendez de Leon, Huron Consulting Group.
The Latina Philanthropy Council creates a platform that engages emerging and established professional Latina leaders, to take action on unique issues facing the Latino community and effect positive change. According to Lucia Ballas-Traynor, Chair of the LPC and Vice-Chair of the HF Board of Directors, “this is the time to seize the opportunity and exercise our individual and collective power to invest by giving to charity and mobilize people to raise unprecedented awareness and resources to support causes that they care about.”
Members of the LPC benefit from a host of networking events, leadership development seminars, and volunteer opportunities.
