On March 17, 2020, the U.S. Department of Labor Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs made a decision to temporarily exempt and waive certain affirmative action obligations connected to supply, service, and construction federal contracts specifically to provide coronavirus relief. Hispanic Federation joined 55 other civil rights and worker rights organizations in opposing the suspension of crucial civil rights protections.

Hispanic Federation is proud to join International Refugee Assistance Project in urging for the protection of refugees and individuals who possess or are applying for visas, parole, and entry permits, are not unjustly affected by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. Visa and entry permits have limited validity periods, and many applicants will see their visa or entry permits expire as a direct result of the pandemic so extending validity periods and deadlines that will pass before the end of the current global pandemic and travel restrictions are critical.

The work of farmworkers is critical as they feed the world, but neither farmworkers nor their labor is properly valued. We must ensure they are not forgotten or left behind as political leaders take swift measures to contain the outbreak and save lives.

Today, 763 non-governmental organizations sent a letter to Matthew T. Albence, Acting Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), calling for ICE to immediately release all people currently detained in immigration detention, cease all local enforcement operations, and eliminate ICE check-ins and mandatory court appearances.
