Cease DHS Expulsion of Unaccompanied Children at Southern Border

Hispanic Federation is proud to join Kids in Need of Defense (KIND), National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC), U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI), Women's Refugee Commission (WRC), and over 70 other organizations calling DHS to cease the expulsion of unaccompanied children at the U.S. southern border. It is a violation of the right to seek asylum and does not protect public health and safety in an ongoing pandemic.

Letter to Congress with Priorities for COVID-19 Fourth Legislation

Hispanic Federation supports the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and 110 organizations in sharing with Congress the economic security priorities for future COVID-19 legislation. This pandemic calls for the enactment of policies and sufficient funding to protect low-and moderate-income people from economic disaster and to meet the urgent needs of the most vulnerable people in our nation.

Letter to Congress on Supporting Res. Condemning COVID-19 Anti-Asian Sentiment

Hispanic Federation joins the National Council of Asian Pacific Americans (NCAPA), the Democracy Initiative, and other organizations, in denouncing the continued increase in racist attacks and discrimination against the Asian American community, and to express our support for H.Res. 908, introduced by Representative Grace Meng (D-NY-6) and its Senate companion to be introduced by Senators Kamala Harris (D-CA), Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), and Mazie Hirono (D-HI); both of which condemn all forms of anti-Asian sentiment related to COVID-19. Letter Supporting a Strong Funding Allocation for the House and Senate Labor- Health and Human Services Appropriations Subcommittees

The Coalition on Human Needs is joined by Hispanic Federation and more than 350 other organizations in supporting a strong funding allocation for the House and Senate Labor-Health and Human Services Appropriations Subcommittees. The programs and services funded by the Labor-HHS-EducationSubcommittee have a profound impact on health and well-being, child development, educational and skills attainment, and productivity, yet they have been shortchanged in the appropriations process over the last decade.

Hispanic Federation has joined the Center for Gender and Refugee Studies and 180+ organizations calling for an end to the Trump Administration’s cruel and illegal border expulsions. The Department of Homeland Security must not use COVID-19 as a pretext to turn its back on refugees and endanger women and children fleeing persecution.

Letter to Congress in Support for FIRST Act

Hispanic Federation is proud to join the National Immigrant Justice Center and nearly 200 other organizations in a letter to Congress endorsing the Federal Immigrant Release for Safety and Security Together (FIRST) Act. It is important to limit ICE's interior enforcement activity, mandate dramatic reductions in ICE detention levels, and ensure basic protections for those currently detained during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Migrant Protection Protocols Raise Severe Access to Counsel Concerns

Hispanic Federation joined the Southern Poverty Law Center, the National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild, and 45 other organizations in urging the Department of Homeland Security and the Executive Office of Immigration Review to address the denial of access to counsel to asylum seekers under the "Remain in Mexico" policy. Full and fair trials of asylum cases are not possible without access to legal representation.

Suspend Immigration Enforcement Activities during Census 2020

Hispanic Federation joined the National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights and multiple organizations in requesting that all immigration enforcement activities and operations of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) be completely and immediately suspended in order to promote an inclusive and accurate count of this country's population during Census 2020.

Congress Must Pass a Second, More Inclusive COVID-19 Relief Package

Hispanic Federation sent a letter to both House and Senate leadership urging the Congress to pass a CARES Act 2 relief bill that secures the health and safety for all people, regardless of immigration status or geographic location, and makes assistance available for the duration of the economic downturn. While the CARES Act was a significant first step, millions of Latinos in the U.S. and Puerto Rico were left out of key provisions of legislation passed to address the impacts of the coronavirus.

A Call for the Small Business Administration to Release Data

Hispanic Federations supports Independent Sector in asking the Small Business Administration to release data detailing the distribution of loans to nonprofit and for-profit entities. The data would provide the information needed to uncover the most pressing and immediate needs for the nonprofits during the coronavirus crisis.
