Frankie Miranda is the first openly gay president and CEO of the Hispanic Federation (HF), the nation’s premier Latino non-profit membership organization. He took the helm of HF in December of 2019, shortly before COVID-19 was declared a national emergency.
Since then, Frankie worked rapidly to address the urgent needs of Latino communities and Latino-serving nonprofits as they faced the disproportionate effects of the pandemic, including higher infection, hospitalization, death, and unemployment rates. Under his leadership, HF continued to grow the organization’s programming during the pandemic while providing over $33.5 million in COVID-related grants to more than 500 nonprofits in 41 states, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia. The funding continues to support community-based organizations that are assisting with the direct and indirect impacts of the pandemic, helping them battle misinformation, and increase access to health resources and life-saving vaccines. HF is committed to distribute an additional $40 million in COVID-related grants and relief throughout 2023 and 2024.
Frankie first joined HF in 1998 and has held various leadership positions. During this time, he played a key role in expanding the organization’s operations into Florida, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, and Illinois while also establishing critical programs that support hundreds of thousands of Latinos. In response to Hurricanes Maria and Irma, Frankie launched disaster relief and resiliency projects in Puerto Rico that helped expand the island’s reliance on renewable energy and revitalize the coffee industry, a key sector of the local economy. He established the Advance Change Together (ACT) Initiative, a new and much-needed program designed to empower and support organizations that protect and serve Latinx LGBTQ+ communities. He also oversees HF’s annual gala, which now raises more than $3 million annually. Frankie credits his accomplishments in great part to his close relationship with previous HF presidents and mentors: Luis A. Miranda, Jr., Lorraine Cortes-Vazquez, Lillian Rodriguez-Lopez, and Jose Calderon.
Earlier in his career, Frankie held several senior leadership positions in the communications industry, including director of communications for the New York Univision TV stations WXTV Channel 41 and WFUT Channel 68. He also served as deputy press secretary for Spanish language media for the Hillary Clinton U.S. Senate campaign in 2000 and Fernando Ferrer’s New York City Mayoral campaign in 2001.
Frankie sits on the external Comcast Corporate DEI Advisory Council, and is a trustee of Fundación Banco Popular. He holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Puerto Rico and an MA in Performance Studies from New York University. Frankie lives in Queens with his husband Ricardo and cat Valentina.
