Mental Health Resources

Mental health is often a stigmatized topic in the Latino community, and yet many are affected by mental health illnesses. In fact, at the height of the pandemic and after, Latinos experienced mental health issues such as greater trauma from losing loved ones and emotional stress from close living situations. Additionally, language barriers and ongoing difficulties accessing expensive healthcare can make it difficult for people to access the care they need. Hispanic Federation has created and compiled resources to help destigmatize mental illness and expand access to mental health resources. Explore resources to prioritize your mental health.

Mental Health Workshops

In 2023, Hispanic Federation launched mental health workshops focusing on post-COVID related issues such as trauma, toxic stress, emotional health, and suicide prevention. HF conducted a total of ten workshops with more than 300 participants in New York State. 90% of participants reported having a better understanding of mental health and 100% reported that the initiative supported them in their mental wellness journey. Por Nosotros: Mental Health Support for Nonprofit Staff

In 2022, HF launched Por Nosotros, a program designed to reduce stigma and address mental health issues among Latino community-based organizations and their frontline staff impacted by the stress of providing services during and post-COVID-19 pandemic. HF held in-person support groups, learning circles, online classes, and healthy lifestyle classes with frontline staff to offer them support. 90-100% of participants reported positive outcomes and the desire for the program to continue. This program was also featured in the New York Times’ Communities Fund in 2023.

Need Immediate Help?

If you’re experiencing a mental health crisis, dial 911 for medical emergencies or text 988 for immediate suicide and crisis support in English and Spanish.

There are additional hotlines available for people who need immediate support. These include the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (1-800-273-TALK), the Crisis Text Line (text HOME to 741741), and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) National Helpline (1-800-662-HELP).
