YMPJ was founded in 1994 with a mission to rebuild critically underserved South Bronx neighborhoods by empowering Black and Brown residents to advocate for environmental justice, economic opportunity, and community resources. We accomplish this through outreach and education, community leadership development, coalition building, and grassroots organizing efforts. Recognizing that daily struggles to meet basic needs present steep hurdles to engaging in community initiatives, YMPJ also provides a variety of direct services, including support around food access, immigration, and other vital areas, to give our vulnerable constituents the stability necessary to meaningfully participate in civic life.
