Asheboro Latinx Services

Our mission is to provide basic health care services and legal and social advice and continue advocating for equal rights and services for our Latinx community in North Carolina.
Asheboro Latinxs Services (ALS) started in January 2022 based on the LGBTQ+ community’s needs for advocacy and equity to navigate resources in our four core areas: Direct Support, Health & Wellness, Education, Community Engagement, and Advocacy. We started our services because rural Randolph County, North Carolina, has limited services for Spanish-speaking people. Regarding our activities, we plan to provide safe sites for upcoming general elections. We are speaking out against SB 101, working with Every Child NC to promote more school funding for the Leandro Plan. We have attended the North Carolina Governor’s Advisory Council on Hispanic-Latino Affairs meetings to work with state leaders to ensure equitable pathways for our communities statewide. For the remainder of the year, we will be having a fashion show for fundraising, a day of the Dead Celebration, a Thanksgiving dinner, and Christmas Posadas, all to come together and share resources with communities. ALS continues to grow our community’s capacity to be empowered by creating opportunities around voting and education information resources for Latinx/Latino families. We just graduated 5 Trans/Latinx Womxn of Color through our pilot program called Empoderadas. Our graduates gained leadership abilities to go into their communities and start sharing learning resources for their communities.
