Doubling Down on Civic Participation

For over 25 years, the Hispanic Federation (HF) has been conducting non-partisan voter education and registration drives targeting Hispanic Americans. HF's Multi-State Civic Engagement and Mobilization Initiative, Movimiento Hispano, is a nonpartisan civic engagement initiative created to increase participation of Latinos in the civic sphere. In 2017, HF is building on our Movimiento Hispano model, increasing our presence in the community and establishing partnerships that will take our voter registration and GOTV efforts in Florida and New York to new heights.

HF’s civic participation model is designed to Engage, Educate, Enable and Empower Latino voters to actively get informed, register and vote on Election Day. To do that, we conduct community voter forums, civic participation trainings, neighborhood and street-based voter outreach, door-to-door canvassing, and Get Out The Vote (GOTV) mobilization.

Voter education efforts at Hispanic Federation are tied to our programmatic and issue-area advocacy work. Hispanic Federation hosts regular community forums on immigration, education, health, economic opportunities, the environment and LGBTQ issues.

Integrating voter registration into our existing programs enables HF to build on the momentum we have gained as a trusted advocate, voice and multi-service provider for the Latino community. We serve hundreds of thousands of people a year and are building an infrastructure for registering every eligible voter that walks through our doors and attends our events.

In 2017, we aim to register 25,000 new voters in NYC alone, and impact over 250,000 Latinos through public education campaigns. We will also host a series of community engagement events, including candidate forums in East Harlem and other Latino-heavy regions of NYC, and conduct voter registration drives and civic education campaigns in Central Florida.
