SPECTRUM AWARDS $30,000 SPECTRUM DIGITAL EDUCATION GRANT TO HISPANIC FEDERATION

Hispanic Federation Will Use Spectrum’s Support to Upgrade Bilingual Technology Center at Central City Neighborhood Partners in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES – December 6, 2024 – Spectrum today announced Hispanic Federation has received a $30,000 grant through its 2024 Spectrum Digital Education program. This year, the program is awarding a total of $1.3 million to 66 organizations. Since launching in 2017, Spectrum Digital Education has committed more than $10 million to nonprofits focused on improving digital literacy, workforce development and educational access in unserved and undeserved communities across Charter’s 41-state service area.

Hispanic Federation is the nation’s premier Latino nonprofit membership organization. Founded in 1990, the organization seeks to empower and advance the Hispanic community, support Hispanic families, and strengthen Latino institutions through work in the areas of education, health, immigration, civic engagement, economic empowerment and climate justice. In 2023, 90% served were at the 200% poverty rate.

The funding will support the upgrade of the bilingual Digital Equity Center located at Central City Neighborhood Partners (CCNP) in Los Angeles. Hispanic Federation has partnered with CCNP to open a fully-equipped computer lab for seniors and families and offer basic computer and digital skills training, giving them access to online resources and better job opportunities.

Spectrum presented the $30,000 grant during a community celebration on December 5 with local families at Central City Neighborhood Partners, alongside Assemblymember Mark Gonzalez.

This latest grant is the sixth Spectrum Digital Education Grant awarded to Hispanic Federation, bringing Spectrum’s total support to $305,000 over the past five years.

“Central City Neighborhood Partners has proven how the Latino community in Los Angeles can benefit and grow from investment in technology services, and we appreciate how Spectrum has stepped up to help scale the Digital Equity Center so it can reach more people,” said German Cash, California State Director of Hispanic Federation. “The Latino workforce is ever growing, and it is essential that we make sure that our communities are equipped to fully engage in future jobs, many of which will be built on, or around, the use of technology. CCNP’s Digital Equity Center is a significant step in expanding digital equity for Latino communities.”

“Central City Neighborhood Partners is very grateful to Spectrum and Hispanic Federation for the support in opening a state-of-the-art Digital Equity Center in Los Angeles,” said Margarita Alvarez Gomez, Executive Director, CCNP. “This groundbreaking initiative will bridge the digital divide for countless households and will provide access to bilingual education for youth, adults and seniors. By providing access to technology, education and resources, the center is ensuring that future leaders will have the tools they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world and advance their economic opportunities.”

“Connectivity is the foundation for meaningful learning, professional growth and human connection, and helps to build strong, thriving communities,” said Wally Bakare, Regional Vice President for Spectrum. “Spectrum Digital Education supports programs that empower community members to enhance their lives with connectivity, from providing digital literacy training to seniors to connecting students with important resources and tools for their education.”
