Hispanic Federation’s Latina Philanthropy Council (LPC) held its first “Latina Leaders Breakfast Series” event on Tuesday, January 19th at McGraw Hill Financial. The event, sponsored by NSHMBA, Aon, Empire Blue, and Nielsen. was hosted by McGraw Hill’s Hispanic Heritage Network and featured Keynote Speaker, Mónica Gil, Senior Vice President and General Manager at Nielsen. A thought leader and marketing strategist, Gil builds cross-cultural connections across Nielsen, consumer and media clients, focusing on innovative and breakthrough approaches to multicultural intelligence.

Over 80 participants had the opportunity to hear Gil’s powerful message on how Latinas are the key drivers of Hispanic economic power in the U.S. According to Gil, Latinas are “ambicultural, technologically-savvy, and a growing economic engine. In fact, 86% of Latinas are the predominant financial decision makers in the Latino household. Latinas are a youthful demographic – 60% are under the age of 35, and are increasingly adapting to all types of technology at a higher pace than other U.S. women.”

The LPC, which was launched last September, mobilizes, inspires, leverages, and engages Latinas as philanthropic leaders. Members of the LPC include emerging and established professional Latina leaders who serve as catalysts promoting Latino philanthropy. LPC offers Latinas access to variety of networking events and meaningful volunteer opportunities.

“It’s clear to us that Latinas are critically important to promoting and expanding philanthropy in our community,” said José Calderón, President of the Hispanic Federation, “The Latina Philanthropy Council is at the heart of what the Federation stands for in advocating for social good for everyone in light of income inequality, the need for affordable care, and access to a quality education to our children.”

The Latina Leaders Breakfast Series is part of a year-long calendar of activities that is being developed by the members of the LPC. For information on becoming a member of HF’s Latina Philanthropy Council, please contact, Jessica Guzman-Mejia.
