Hispanic Federation’s Statement on Brazen Racist and Xenophobic Actions Across the United States
NEW YORK— There have been a number of documented, racist and xenophobic statements coming into the public eye over the past few weeks involving both the government and elected officials. Hispanic Federation President and CEO Frankie Miranda released the following statement in response to these recent statements motivated by anti-immigrant, anti- diversity, equity, and inclusion actions from the federal government:
“The White House’s Blanket approval of racial profiling and discrimination based on “perceived” immigration status has been trickling out to all aspects of our society. Whether it be the questioning of the immigration status of one elected official by another elected official, as we saw in Westchester, New York, or it be the detention of citizens simply because they are speaking in Spanish, as we saw in Newark, New Jersey, unchecked discrimination gives tacit approval for its continuation. This is why we need more elected officials, public figures, and members of our community to denounce racist remarks in our society and to send a clear message that racism will be challenged wherever it appears.”
