Hispanic Federation Statement on President Trump’s Inauguration Reasserts Commitment to Defending Immigrant and Civil Rights

Hispanic Federation remains steadfast in the commitment to work with 750+ members and partners to serve, uplift, and defend our community in the coming years

Washington, DC – Today, Donald J. Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States. In response to today’s inauguration, Frankie Miranda, President and CEO of Hispanic Federation (HF), issued the following statement:

“The peaceful transfer of power is a hallmark of our nation’s democratic values, and Hispanic Federation remains committed to the continuation of this tradition. We thank President Joseph R. Biden for his decades of service to our country and over the last four years, as President, where his administration implemented policies such as the Inflation Reduction Act’s investment in sustainable energy, support for Puerto Rico’s resilience, and asserting a commitment to the well-being of essential workers.  As a new administration takes power in Washington, DC, Hispanic Federation remains focused on our mission to advance and empower the Latino community in the United States.

Prior to his Inauguration, President Trump proposed that his 2025 term have a new tone of unity. Unfortunately, today’s speech echoed much of the sentiment that he set in 2017 when he described a country in decline. To unify the country, the President must recognize that safety, equality, inclusion, and justice are values at our nation’s core and must be universally applied to everyone in the United States. We hope President Trump will dispel these qualms and govern according to those ideals with real policies rooted in compassion and respect for human dignity, not fear.

Hispanic Federation is eager to join with partners, both community-based organizations as well as elected officials at the county, state, and federal levels, to support policies that protect the safety, well-being, and economic opportunity of all communities. HF will never waver from our resolution to protect our most vulnerable communities, expand access to renewable energy, protect Puerto Rico, uplift, defend, and advance our immigrant communities, protect our civil rights, including LGBTQ+, reproductive, and voting rights, and celebrating the economic, social, and cultural impact of Latinos in the United States. Honoring this commitment will entail conflict and compromise, and we are prepared to continue the American fight for a more perfect union. Hispanic Federation is available to engage policymakers, and leaders to discuss how best to achieve that vision.”
