Hispanic Federation Statement on Governor Cuomo’s Free Tuition Proposal for New York State Colleges
January 3, 2017 (New York, NY) – Hispanic Federation has issued the following statement in response to Governor Andrew Cuomo’s proposal for free SUNY and CUNY tuition.
“This is an exciting day for millions of working families across our state who continue to dream of an opportunity to achieve a higher education,” said Jose Calderon, President of the Hispanic Federation. “We applaud Governor Cuomo for his bold and welcomed proposal to make college tuition free for low- and middle-income New Yorkers. In partnership with the CUNY Rising Alliance, the Federation has long advocated that higher education should be the right of all and not the privilege of just a few. We look forward to working with the Governor on advancing this proposal and continuing to champion other forward-thinking initiatives that ensure that all our families have access to a quality higher education.”
