Federal Trial Challenging Florida Law that Targets Voter Registration, Civic Engagement, and Political Speech Begins

With the official proceedings of the Hispanic Federation v. Byrd trial beginning today, representatives from the plaintiff organizations and legal organizations arguing the case – including Hispanic Federation, LatinoJustice PRLDEF, ACLU, and Poder Latinx – hosted a press conference to preview the status of the trial, and how the noncitizen provision is an infringement of the organization’s first amendment right.

HISPANIC FEDERATION, PARTNERS DISTRIBUTE MORE THAN $8.2 MILLION TO NEAR 14,000 NORTH CAROLINA FARMWORKERS AND MEATPACKERS THROUGH USDA RELIEF GRANT PROGRAM

Hispanic Federation (HF) announced that they have distributed more than $8.2 million to nearly 14,000 farmworkers and meatpackers, working in North Carolina since March 2023. The payments are part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Farm and Food Workers Relief (FFWR) Grant program, which awarded Hispanic Federation a $44.3 million grant to distribute $600 one-time payments to farm and food workers in 17 states, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands in 2023.

VICTORY IN CHALLENGE AGAINST FLORIDA’S ANTI-VOTER LAW

In a significant legal victory, a federal district court has issued summary judgment in favor of voting and immigrants’ rights advocates challenging Florida SB 7050, which bars any noncitizen — regardless of lawful residence status — from working or volunteering for third-party voter registration organizations (3PVROs) who register eligible Floridians.

HISPANIC FEDERATION, CITY OF CHARLOTTE DISTRIBUTE $800,000 IN GRANTS TO LATINO-LED NONPROFITS IMPACTED BY THE PANDEMIC

Hispanic Federation (HF), the nation’s premier Latino nonprofit membership organization, announced that it has allocated a total of $800,000 for 13 Latino-led, nonprofits in North Carolina.
