NY Congressional Delegation Briefed by Communities of Color

Unity. That concept is more important than ever before. Understanding the growing challenges diverse communities face across the nation, HF is actively working to shape a people of color agenda that brings together – with one powerful voice – the hopes and aspirations of African Americans, Latinos, Asians, Muslims, the LGBTQ community and others.

With that goal in mind, HF brought together 7 members of the NY Congressional Delegation to discuss policy concerns with an amazing group of social justice leaders representing New York's and America’s rich diversity.

Held on June 26th at HF's headquarters, the roundtable discussion covered the national debates taking place around health care, immigration, education, the federal budget and civil rights. Present at the meeting were Representatives Nydia Velazquez (NY-7), Grace Meng (NY- 6), Gregory Meeks (NY-5), Jerold Nadler (NY-10), Eliot Engel (NY-16), Adriano Espaillat (NY-13), and Kathleen Rice (NY-4).

“This multi-ethnic, diverse group had the opportunity to speak about issues that cut across all of our communities," said HF's President José Calderón. “We were honored to welcome such a powerful group of leaders to our space and present a unified voice on policy and legislative matters."

HF reconvened the leadership of these diverse organizations this past week to continue to build momentum around a People of Color Agenda. If you're interested in joining our coalition, please contact our AVP for Policy Jessica Orozco-Guttlein.
