The Open Hearth is the oldest continually operating housing program for men on the East Coast. Since 1884, our mission has been to help men experiencing homelessness enhance their capacity for self-help, self-respect, and dignity, and to achieve their full potential as responsible citizens of Greater Hartford and Connecticut.
Our goal has always been “To help men help themselves.” We not only address the basic needs of the men who live with us by providing shelter, food, and clothing, we also provide opportunities for our clients to secure employment and find permanent housing in the community.
