Hispanic Federation joins the Rhode Island College community in celebrating the inauguration of its tenth president, Dr. Frank Sánchez. As the very first Latino head of RIC, Dr. Sánchez takes the helm of one of the oldest public colleges in New England. Dr. Sánchez brings to RIC a deep well of experience as a university administrator and educational leader of diverse campuses. Equally important is his commitment to supporting and motivating RIC’s 12,000 students, a substantial percentage of which are Hispanic.
“I have known Frank since he joined the City University of New York in 2011 as Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs,” said Hispanic Federation President José Calderón. “Frank was a crucial partner in launching our Crear Futuros program in CUNY. He understood that first-generation Latino students at CUNY could succeed in college if they received vital support services. Indeed, Dr. Sánchez has launched the “First in Family Fund” to support the enrollment of high performing first-generation freshmen, and HF is very pleased to have contributed $10K to this fund. Frank’s visible presence as the leader of one of New England’s most distinguished public colleges sends an important signal to all Americans that Latinos care deeply about higher education and that they are vital and indispensable to the future success of the nation.”
“I also am extremely pleased to celebrate Frank’s joining the Hispanic Federation’s Board of Directors. His breadth of knowledge and dedication to success and achievement will be a valuable asset as the Federation continues to expand its college success and achievement programs. I am sure he will serve this position with grace and distinction. Gracias for all that you do, Frank!"
