Statement on the SCOTUS Ruling on Whole Woman's Health v. Hellerstedt

June 27, 2016

Hispanic Federation is encouraged that the Supreme Court of the United States has placed the health and well-being of Texans above partisan politicking. With this ruling, individuals who are seeking safe and affordable reproductive healthcare will maintain access to care. This is a critical move in the right direction for our community, as Latinas are disproportionately affected by such healthcare restrictions, because of the implications they have on lower income and immigrant families. However, there is still work left to be done. The sad reality is that laws similar to H.B. 2 are popping up in states all around the country in attempts to limit access to vital reproductive healthcare for individuals in need. We will continue to fight to ensure that access to reproductive health services are available for all.
