Hispanic Federation's Statement on Trump's Third Travel Ban

José Calderón, President of Hispanic Federation, issued the following statement regarding President Donald Trump’s third attempt to restrict travel to the United States from certain countries:

“President Trump’s latest ban reminds us that you can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig. The President’s Travel Ban 3.0 is sadly still girded to Trump’s deeply rooted xenophobia and Islamophobia. As he repeatedly made clear when he was running for office, the end goal for Trump is the “total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States.”

The new order imposes travel restrictions indefinitely for seven countries, 6 of which are Muslim nations. It attempts to mask its prejudice by including a sprinkling of government officials from Venezuela in the ban and insisting it is the result of considered expert analysis and deliberation by several government agencies. Of course, none of that lipstick or window dressing changes the facts. Discriminatory intent is discrimination, and it must be vigorously rejected politically, legally and in the public arena.”
