Hispanic Federation Statement on Inauguration and Biden Administration Day One Actions

Hispanic Federation President Frankie Miranda issued the following statement on the Inauguration of President Joseph R. Biden and Vice President Kamala D. Harris and the day one actions of the Administration:

“January 20th was a good day for America. The inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris signals not just a reset of American politics but a redirection. America has become reacquainted with its better self and has set itself a new and important agenda of change and reform. This shouldn't be seen as a return to normal, but instead a course correction that will drive the nation into a future that is more promising and hopeful for a greater number of Americans than ever before.

We were heartened that on his first day in office, President Biden signed a series of Executive Orders that address climate change, safeguard LGBTQ rights, strengthen DACA, tackle the economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, and honor our history as a nation open to all immigrants. This is the sort of leadership that has been sorely missing in Washington for the last four years and we welcome the President's bold start to his term in office.

Additionally, as one of the nation's leading civil rights organizations, we at Hispanic Federation take special pride in the history-making Vice-Presidency of Kamala Harris. As a woman of color and the daughter of immigrants, Vice President Harris is a powerful and needed example that the United States is a country that draws its greatest strength from its diversity of backgrounds and experiences.

The road ahead for the new administration will not be easy. Our nation confronts unprecedented challenges, from an unparalleled pandemic to the grave threat posed by climate change. All of this while we face a bitterly divided electorate. But today showed that we also have great reason for hope and optimism. That we have the leadership, will and resources to bring about needed change. It’s a tremendous opportunity for all of us to do more. The future of our nation depends on it. ”
