Somos El Futuro Conference Heads to Puerto Rico This Week

Each November, New York State’s elected, civic and corporate Latino leaders head to Puerto Rico as part of the Somos el Futuro conference. The annual event features five days of conferences, workshops, networking and field visits in Puerto Rico exploring issues such as health care, education and environmental racism. This year’s conference, at the Caribe Hilton in San Juan, begins on November 9th and concludes on November 13th.

Hispanic Federation will once again take an active role in the conference with HF President José Calderón, Vice Presidents Frankie Miranda and José Dávila participating in numerous panels on the 2016 elections, LGBTQ rights, and Puerto Rico under PROMESA.

“Somos is a really important gathering of policymakers and civic and corporate leaders,” said HF President José Calderón. “It gives us a chance to debate and think about some of the critical challenges facing our communities. Especially against the backdrop of the presidential election, it’s clear that we are going to have to do a great deal of work around issues like health care, the economic and political future of Puerto Rico, and voting rights. Thanks to Chairman Crespo, Somos is the place to do some of that work.”
