Energy Efficiency Program for Small Businesses Now in the Bronx

The Hispanic Federation’s Energy Efficiency Program is moving on up to the Bronx. Much like their counterparts have done in Washington Heights and Inwood over the past year, Bronx business owners can now apply to receive FREE lighting retrofits in their establishments.  This expansion of services is being made possible thanks to the generous support of Walmart. To date, more than 125 businesses have been able to lower their carbon footprint and significantly reduce their energy costs as a result of this initiative.

To apply, businesses must be current on their Con Edison energy bills, have an annual electric bill under $75,000 and be located in the Bronx. All applicants will be responded to on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Washington Heights/Inwood Energy-Efficiency Initiative Still Accepting Applications

In partnership with Con Edison of New York and the Office of Assemblyman Adriano Espaillat, HF continues its green initiative to make small businesses in Washington Heights and Inwood more energy-efficient by installing new, free lighting retrofits in the stores. The goal of the program is for businesses to save on their utility bills by installing more efficient lighting that will reduce their carbon footprint.

Domingo, a bodega owner in Inwood who received the installation described the project as “fantastic, quick and easy.” “It is wonderful that through this initiative the Hispanic Federation is offering free lighting. It’s a big help to our community and will be a big help in reducing my energy bills,” Domingo said.

Program applicants are required to be current on their Con Edison energy bills, have an annual electric bill under $75,000 and be located within the Washington Heights/Inwood boundaries; beginning on 155th streets and above. All applicants will be responded to on a first-come, first-serve basis.
