Hispanic Federation’s Response to COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

These are difficult times for us all. The outbreak of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) has sown fear and anxiety — in our homes, our workplaces, and throughout our communities — and left us grappling with the question about how we care for others, while protecting the safety and well-being of our staff and families. These questions strike at the heart of our mission.

In response to the new reality we’re all facing, I wanted to take this time to update you on some of the actions we are taking to advance our work.

We have made the decision to reschedule the Hispanic Federation’s 30th Anniversary Gala on April 23rd to a later date in the fall of this year. We promise to be in touch soon with the new date.

Our organization is also doubling down on its commitment to its network of Latino community-based organizations. We know that our affiliate nonprofits are on the front lines of some of the toughest challenges facing our communities, and in the weeks and months ahead they will be called upon to care for and rebuild the communities that are being devastated by this pandemic.

Just as importantly, we are committed to doing everything we can to ensure our staff is safe and able to address ongoing community needs. Thus, while we have closed our physical offices and suspended in-person meetings and conferences for the time being, our staff is continuing to work remotely on vital programs and initiatives.

We are especially sensitive to the fact that many of our network of organizations will suffer significant financial losses in the coming months. The economic impact of these revenue losses will be significant and will demand our attention. We will work with our partners in philanthropy and government to make sure that our organizations are able to recover their fiscal footing and continue to provide the high-quality and necessary services that our communities need. We will be crafting a post-Coronavirus recovery plan for our network that we will share with supporters in the private and public sectors in order to create a comprehensive, multi-pronged response to the crisis and its aftermath.

These last few months have been challenging for us all. From the earthquakes in Puerto Rico, to the unsettling political challenges in Washington, to a deadly global pandemic, we have been tested as never before. Yet, I know that together we are strong and will always act in unison to respond effectively with heart, courage and compassion to the challenges ahead.

Sincerely,

Frankie Miranda
