Second Open Letter About COVID-19 and LGBTQ+ Communities

Hispanic Federation proudly joins Whitman-Walker Health, the National LGBT Cancer Network, GLMA, SAGE, National Queer Asian Pacific Islander Alliance, New York Transgender Advocacy Group, and more 170 other organizations in issuing a second open letter to public health officials, healthcare institutions and government leaders on the impact of COVID-19 on LGBTQ communities. LGBTQ patients must be protected from discrimination and sexual orientation and gender identity need to be included in data collection.

COVID-19 Response Legislation Must Be Non-Discriminatory

Family Equity is joined by Hispanic Federation and 183 other organizations in a letter to Congress urging for all-inclusive language to be included in the upcoming COVID-19 response legislation. It is important to ensure that discrimination is prohibited in all federally funded COVID-19 benefits and services.

Protecting Migrants, Asylum Seekers, and Refugees During the COVID-19 Crisis on the US-Mexico Border

The current COVID-19 pandemic calls for the protection of migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers in situations of vulnerability in the Mexico- United States border region. The National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, along with Hispanic Federation and other organizations, call upon border Mayors and local government officials to enact protections that will help save lives of migrants, refugees, and children caught in the vulnerable situations while upholding human rights and international laws.

Hispanic Federation joined Indivisible and numerous organizations in a letter to Speaker Pelosi and Democratic Leader Schumer in urging for the incorporation of the principles and priorities laid out by the Executive Board of the Congressional Progressive Caucus in its April 10, 2020 letter.

Objection to Illegal Expulsions by the Department of Homeland Security during COVID-19 Pandemic

Under the March 20, 2020 order of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Homeland Security has illegally blocked asylum-seekers and vulnerable children from requesting protection. These expulsions violate U.S. refugee, immigration, and anti-trafficking laws passed by Congress. Hispanic Federation joins Human Rights First and more than 120 organizations in denouncing the illegal expulsions and restore the rule of law at our borders.

Cease DHS Expulsion of Unaccompanied Children at Southern Border

Hispanic Federation is proud to join Kids in Need of Defense (KIND), National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC), U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI), Women's Refugee Commission (WRC), and over 70 other organizations calling DHS to cease the expulsion of unaccompanied children at the U.S. southern border. It is a violation of the right to seek asylum and does not protect public health and safety in an ongoing pandemic.

Letter to Congress with Priorities for COVID-19 Fourth Legislation

Hispanic Federation supports the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and 110 organizations in sharing with Congress the economic security priorities for future COVID-19 legislation. This pandemic calls for the enactment of policies and sufficient funding to protect low-and moderate-income people from economic disaster and to meet the urgent needs of the most vulnerable people in our nation.

Letter to Congress on Supporting Res. Condemning COVID-19 Anti-Asian Sentiment

Hispanic Federation joins the National Council of Asian Pacific Americans (NCAPA), the Democracy Initiative, and other organizations, in denouncing the continued increase in racist attacks and discrimination against the Asian American community, and to express our support for H.Res. 908, introduced by Representative Grace Meng (D-NY-6) and its Senate companion to be introduced by Senators Kamala Harris (D-CA), Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), and Mazie Hirono (D-HI); both of which condemn all forms of anti-Asian sentiment related to COVID-19. The Coalition on Human Needs is joined by Hispanic Federation and more than 350 other organizations in supporting a strong funding allocation for the House and Senate Labor-Health and Human Services Appropriations Subcommittees. The programs and services funded by the Labor-HHS-EducationSubcommittee have a profound impact on health and well-being, child development, educational and skills attainment, and productivity, yet they have been shortchanged in the appropriations process over the last decade.

Hispanic Federation has joined the Center for Gender and Refugee Studies and 180+ organizations calling for an end to the Trump Administration’s cruel and illegal border expulsions. The Department of Homeland Security must not use COVID-19 as a pretext to turn its back on refugees and endanger women and children fleeing persecution.
